What is a Brow Lift?
Brow lift surgery (also called a forehead lift or browplasty) is a popular aesthetic procedure that helps create a higher brow appearance, which can give your upper face a more youthful aesthetic. Many times, a drooping brow can create a tired or angry appearance. This procedure surgically addresses a drooping brow to give you a more rejuvenated face by eliminating excess skin from the forehead while lifting the eyebrows. Oftentimes, injectable wrinkle treatments, like BOTOX, are used in combination with a forehead lift for enhanced results. Board-certified plastic surgeon and hand surgeon Dr. Omar Ahmed performs brow lifts on patients of all ages to create a younger look. "Dr.Ahmed got skills!! I could not be happier with the results of my tummy tuck and lipo. He gave me back my pre baby body, and then some! I went on 5 consultations prior to him. A few minutes into my consultation with Dr.Ahmed I knew he was the one. He is honest, and didn’t try to sell me up on procedures like other plastic surgeons I saw previously. He listened and answered my questions patiently and explained in great detail what my procedure would be like. No one else took that kind of time. Surgery day was calm and his staff is super friendly and caring. After surgery he was always available to answer my questions and making appointments with his staff was easy and they worked with my crazy schedule every time. Dr.Ahmed has changed my life and I am forever grateful. I recommend him to everyone I know."- P. / Healthgrades / Sep 14, 2020
"Dr. Omar Ahmed is a highly skilled and talented surgeon. He is honest, down to earth, and his bedside manner is excellent. I had a tummy tuck, 360 lipo and a BBL. It was a transformation beyond my expectations. I am extremely happy with the results, and recommended him to anyone and everyone I know who wants cosmetic surgery. I will be returning to him for a breast augmentation in 6 months. Thanks Doc, you changed my life!"- Anonymous / Healthgrades / Aug 05, 2020
"Dr. Ahmed is extremely kind and very informative. He's considerate and always attentive to my mom's needs and concerns. My mom has had several surgeries and had no complications whatsoever. I appreciate his direct approach and his willingness to answer all my questions. My mom says she always feels safe with him. Highly recommend him and his staff. His assistant Angelina is a delight to work with. We wish you all the best, Robin Appleby and Barbara Curry."- R.A. / Google / Sep 08, 2019
"In February 2018, I tumbled down the stairs of my office building. I sustained a four-inch gash in my head that bled profusely. I was sent to Methodist Hospital in Arcadia. They called Dr Ahmed to stitch up my head. My Blue Shield PPO did not want to pay his bill of $7,000, which I thought was very reasonable, given the very skillful job he did, but they paid the ER Doctor’s $5,000 bill. Dr Ahmed was the only doctor that I saw that day, despite a bad concussion."- J.S. / Yelp / Apr 25, 2019
Ideal Candidates for Brow Lift
As you get older, skin elasticity decreases and causes several aspects of the face to begin to sag. This is particularly true in the upper face region and usually impacts both women and men. When looking in the mirror, do you look angry or tired, or see frown lines between the eyebrows, or are bothered by a drooping brow? Brow lift surgery at Omar Ahmed, M.D. may be the right cosmetic treatment for you.
Brow Lift Technique
Prior to the procedure, anesthesia is administered. This may be done through IV sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of the procedure. The incision technique performed during a browplasty is determined on the degree of skin sag, if the forehead is addressed, and the position of the patient's hairline. There are many techniques to consider:
- Traditional Incision
Also called the open browplasty incision, this places the incision at the top of the head behind the hairline. The open incision not only masks scars, but it also allows a certain degree of controlled lifting during the procedure. This type of incision is good for those with both frown lines and a sagging brow. This is the better incision if you are concerned about a receding hairline.
- Trichophytic Incision
This incision is made directly against the patient's hairline. A trichophytic incision allows a more dramatic lift in the brow for men and women who have a strong hairline with little risk for recession.
- Lateral Brow Lift
Also called a temporal brow lift, this method places the incision inside the hairline slightly above the temples. It allows the outer areas of the brow to be raised and is best for sagging that is visible in the outer brow. A temporal brow lift also helps to address Crow’s feet.
- Endoscopic Forehead Lift
The endoscopic lift is a more modern method used in brow lift surgery. This method places several tiny incisions in the hairline and inserts the endoscope, which travels down to the area of the eyebrow to release its attached tools. Through the camera of the endoscope, the brow tissue is suspended with stitches to place the brow in a higher position.
What to Expect with a Brow Lift
Recovery following brow lift surgery varies in each patient with more discomfort and swelling reported with the open technique compared to the endoscopic or temporal methods. Overall, patients feel some bruising and swelling in the upper face near the eyebrows and possibly near the eyes. Dr. Ahmed recommends patients sleep with pillows propped under their head for the first several nights after their brow lift, as well as avoid any activities that may put stress on your face. The typical recovery time from this procedure is about 2 – 3 weeks. Many patients see results right away, resulting in a softer, rejuvenated upper facial appearance.
