About Arm Lift Surgery
One big challenge with getting older or losing weight is gaining loose skin. At Omar Ahmed, M.D., we offer arm lift surgery (also called brachioplasty) as a procedure for anyone who cannot seem to tone and tighten the arms with natural methods. Lax skin from the elbow to the upper arm is very common, particularly for men and women who are getting older or have lost significant amounts of weight. An upper arm lift effectively removes this loose, hanging skin, often known as "bat wings." Board-certified plastic surgeon and hand surgeon Dr. Omar Ahmed is very skilled in fat removal and skin tightening surgeries. If you want to learn more information about how brachioplasty can change the look of your arms, schedule a consultation at Omar Ahmed, M.D. in Pasadena, CA.

Ideal Candidates for Arm Lift
An upper arm lift is a cosmetic surgery employing innovative techniques to contour and excise extra skin. If you are tired of hiding your "bat wings" and want them to look healthy and fit again, you may be a great candidate for arm lift surgery. You need to be in good overall health so that the skin will heal properly. Some of the primary signs for patients who want an arm lift are loose, hanging skin on the upper arms, plus minimal tightness of the skin. It is important that you are at your goal weight prior to surgery.
Arm Lift Technique
Most likely, your upper arm lift surgery will take place in an outpatient facility unless several plastic surgeries are to be performed at one time. Arm lift surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and can require several hours to complete. The excess skin will be surgically excised, starting at the elbow up to the underarm. The incision will be placed to be as hidden as possible, but it will leave a visible scar. In cases where liposuction is required to eliminate stubborn fatty deposits, this can be performed also. After the skin is tightened, it will be sutured together. You will have to keep the incisions cleaned, covered, and supported with compression garments.
What to Expect Following Arm Lift
You'll need to rest and recover for the next couple of weeks. Since the arms are used for many daily activities, we encourage you to ease back into your routine slowly. For at least 4 – 5 weeks, all exercise and strenuous activity should be eliminated except taking short walks. An appointment to remove sutures will be made around ten days following surgery. Compression garments should be worn until you receive permission from Dr. Ahmed. If you have excessive swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, hematoma (fluid buildup), signs of infection, loss of feeling in the arms or hands, or heavy scarring, please contact our team for assistance.
