What is a thigh lift?
People who undergo massive weight loss occasionally require one additional step to finalize their body transformation. Depending on the amount of time you carried the extra weight and how much of that weight you lost, hanging skin may be a separate concern if the skin was not able to adapt to the new size and shape of your body. The thighs are especially areas of concern for a lot of people. Board-certified plastic surgeon and hand surgeon Dr. Omar Ahmed offers surgical thigh lifts (also called thighplasty) to trim away excess skin on the outer or inner thighs to produce a more contoured, tighter look. This surgery has risen in popularity since it offers natural-looking results for patients fighting sagging skin on the thighs. To schedule your consultation, contact Omar Ahmed, M.D. in Pasadena, CA.

Ideal Candidates for Thigh Lift
Thigh lift surgery is a skin removal and skin tightening procedure that improves the appearance of excess skin. Thigh lift surgery is commonly performed on people who have lost at least 100 pounds. It's also helpful for older people who are battling loose skin due to age, as well as with women whose body weight changed from pregnancy and childbirth. If you have wrinkly, hanging, or loose skin on your upper thighs (outer, inner, or both), thigh lift surgery can be a big help.
Thigh Lift Technique
During a thigh lift at Omar Ahmed, M.D., general anesthesia is commonly used. A surgical incision is placed near the top portion of the thigh in the natural fold where the thigh and torso meet. This incision typically extends down to the midsection of the thigh. This allows enough room to perform liposuction (if necessary) to remove stubborn pockets of fat, as well as to excise all excess skin at the top of the thigh area. The skin will be stretched upward so it is taut and safely secured with sutures. In some cases, an incision may be made in the outer thigh area or underneath the buttocks, depending on the amount of tissue being removed.
Follow-Up After Thigh Lift Surgery
A thigh lift takes around 2 – 3 hours to perform. As soon as the procedure is done, you will be monitored and then allowed to go home to begin your recovery. There is usually discomfort, bruising, and swelling during the first days of recovery. Within a few days, many patients are able to get up and slowly walk, which is necessary for improved blood circulation and faster healing. The full recovery period usually lasts about 6 – 8 weeks. Although there will be some scarring, you will start to see improvements in the contour and shape of your thighs.
